This tour shifts with the ever moving wildebeest herds as follows:

January to March: Witness the wildebeest calving season in Ndutu, southern Serengeti
April to June: Marvel at the central Serengeti’s migrating herds
July to October: Watch the drama of the Mara River crossings in the northern Serengeti

Start your safari with an early morning briefing at your Arusha hotel before you are driven for 1.5 to 2 hours to Tarangire National Park, a true wildlife gem known primarily for its vast elephant population and impressive baobab trees.

Spend the day enjoying game drives, with a picnic lunch included, before delighting in your permanent tented camp which will be your home for the next 2 nights.

For your full day in Tarangire enjoy more fabulous game drives exploring the national park. Activities include game drives, guided walking safaris, bush breakfasts, community and cultural visits.

Your day in Karatu starts early and you will enjoy a full morning and picnic lunch in the Ngorongoro Crater, one of the natural wonders of the world. The volcanic caldera of the Ngorongoro offers spectacular game viewing with four of the Big Five often seen, as well as a rich variety of birds, all viewed against the backdrop of the thickly forested crater walls. Varied terrains and dramatic landscapes consisting of forest, grasslands and both freshwater and soda lakes make the Ngorongoro Crater a true marvel.

(Depending on the time of year, your crater visit may take place on Day 3, in the afternoon. This will be confirmed by your guide when commencing your safari).

From the Crater, continue onto the Serengeti, home to more than three million large mammals spread over vast endless plains. It is here that we aim to encounter the fascinating spectacle of the annual wildebeest migration, where one and quarter million wildebeest trek in columns up to forty kilometres long in search of grazing, drawing with them plenty of predators and numerous other species of game. Remember the herds are moving in response to the rains and fresh grasses so their movements can never be guaranteed.

From January to March the herds can largely be found birthing their young in the southern area around Ndutu.
They then proceed north through the centre and Western Corridor during April to June.
They eventually split to the west and north as they continue their way towards the Mara River. July to October sees the dramatic river crossings before the herds return south in November to repeat the procession all over again.

Overnight for 3 nights at one, or a combination of the below camps, depending on
the time of year.

Your time in the Serengeti will be spent on full or half day game drives. You can also enjoy a hot air balloon ride for thrilling views of the wildlife rich plains (optional extra).

April to June: Serengeti Wilderness Camp
July to October: Serengeti North Wilderness Camp (1 night at Serengeti Wilderness Camp, 2 nights at Serengeti North Wilderness Camp)

After breakfast, if you are staying in the central or southern Serengeti, return by road to Arusha (driving time 6-8 hours depending on which camp you are staying at and game viewing en route).

If you are staying in northern Serengeti your tour includes a flight back to Kilimanjaro International Airport.
